As part of our Young Ambassadors for Sustainable Development program, each student has to choose a volunteering social project. We were pleasantly surprised when 11 year old Varun Madan Padaki took the initiative to do a project to create awareness on Gender Equality (SDG5).
When asked about his motivation behind choosing such a sensitive topic; he reasoned that he had seen pictures in different newspapers of men beating girls and had always wanted to do something about it. This platform was finally giving him the opportunity to do just that.
As part of his project, Varun has created a quiz to make us aware of the beliefs and bias we all carry and how it influences our actions. There couldn’t have been a better day than International Day of the Girl Child to launch this quiz. International Day of the Girl Child is an international observance day declared by the United Nations, observed on 11-October. The observation supports more opportunity for girls and access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and forced child marriage.
This quiz was launched on 11-October-2020 and garnered huge interest and reflections from everyone about the gender bias. Take the quiz here: https://freeonlinesurveys.com/s/0MVIWpAA
